Many players felt that Borderlands 4 was a strong return to form after the previous installment. Others thought it was pretty much the same as before. Overall, critics seemed to enjoy it, though players had more mixed feelings. The game has become one of the best-selling titles of 2025, which is what really matters to the people in charge. Because of this success, we can expect a lot of new content for this shooting and looting game soon.
A detailed plan for Borderlands 4, called a roadmap, was shared on January 29th. It lays out what’s coming all the way up to the third part of 2026. The game’s first big update is already out and adds a Photo Mode. However, more significant additions won’t start arriving until later this month. Here’s a quick look at what’s planned, and you can see the full schedule below:
In February, a new mission called Bounty Pack 2: Legend of the Stone Demon will be released. This pack will include extra powerful Legendary items and more cosmetic items to collect. It’s important to know that this second Bounty Pack will cost money, unlike the first one. Along with this paid download, a new type of gear called Pearlescent, which is even rarer than Legendary, will become available in Borderlands 4 for all players to find. Later on, the first of the planned Story Packs, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, will add a brand-new area called Kairos, new story missions, and the game’s first new Vault Hunter.
This new playable character is named C4SH. He used to be a casino dealer robot but now wanders around, seeking the thrill of finding strange artifacts that seem to defy luck. While I haven’t played the game myself, this sounds like a creative and unusual idea for a character, which is great for a type of game that really needs fresh approaches. It gets a thumbs up from me.
There are more content updates, both free and paid, shown on the roadmap, but the developers aren’t ready to share all the details yet. They have mentioned that highly requested improvements, like making the game easier to play, will be added as soon as possible. These include raising the maximum character level, allowing saves to work across different gaming platforms, sharing progress (like world progress and things unlocked for all characters) between all Vault Hunters, and adding more free events to keep things interesting.
Finally, the game’s endgame content is expected to get some major additions. This includes more challenging boss fights starting in the second quarter of 2026, new Takedown missions, and other endgame activities, both small and large. It’s common for games like this to take some time to fully develop, but since the Borderlands series doesn’t fully commit to being a constantly updated “live service” game, this effort to keep it engaging for years to come is quite significant.
