UPDATE 4.12pm: The news is now official. The game Marathon will be released on March 5th. It will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC through Steam.
You can watch the new trailer that shows the release date and allows for pre-orders below.
The trailer description says: “Secrets. Buried and rotting. With the UESC holding the shovel. That’s where you come in, Runner.”
There will be a Standard Edition and a Deluxe Edition. These include special looks for the Runner and weapons. There is also a Marathon Collector’s Edition. Bungie describes this as a “premium unboxing experience inspired by Sekiguchi Genetics’ shell-weaving process.”
The team teased: “Unbox to reveal a 1/6-scale Thief Runner Shell statue, collectible miniature WEAVEworm, embroidered patch, postcards, digital rewards, and more.” A video with more details is available below.

ORIGINAL 2.53pm: The release date for Bungie’s upcoming game Marathon appeared to leak early through a pre-order trailer on the Xbox Store.
According to that trailer, the game is set to launch on March 5th. It also mentioned the availability of a Deluxe Edition.
The trailer was later removed from its original location. However, the footage showing the release date can still be found online.
The description read: “Infil into the dark sci-fi world of Tau Ceti 4: A derelict colony rife with rival Runners, hostile UESC security forces, and unpredictable environments. Play with your crew, as a solo Runner, or form uneasy alliances with proximity chat.”

It continued: “Scavenge, buildcraft, and take on greater PvPvE challenges – culminating with the derelict Marathon ship hanging above.”
Back in December, Bungie confirmed that Marathon would be released sometime in March. At that time, they did not provide a specific day for the launch.
After the March release window was announced, Joseph Cross, the art director and a veteran developer at Bungie, announced he was leaving the company. Last month, Cross said, “I’m incredibly proud of the visual world we built for Marathon. Getting support at this scale for something a bit different is rare, and the art team at Bungie is the best in the biz. I’ll be enjoying playing the game as a fan with all of you.”
He added, “Massive thank you to everyone who has supported through all of it.”
Cross confirmed that his departure from the studio was his own decision. This followed the discovery that the extraction shooter had used artwork by artist Antireal without permission.
