The cast for Amazon’s upcoming live-action adaptation of God of War has received another major addition. Over the weekend, it was confirmed that Teresa Palmer will take on the role of Phoebe, also known as Sif. In the series, she portrays Thor’s wife and the goddess of family.
Her inclusion in the show suggests that the series will explore more than just Kratos’ personal journey from the 2018 game. The story will likely show how his actions ripple through the world and affect other characters, including the gods of Asgard.
Palmer is known for her roles in popular television series and films. She has appeared in A Discovery of Witches and the movie Warm Bodies. She now joins a growing list of actors set to appear in the high-profile production.
She will be working alongside Ryan Hurst, who is already confirmed to play Kratos. Hurst is also known for voicing Thor in the video game God of War Ragnarök. The series is a joint effort between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
Behind the camera, the project has also secured some experienced talent. Frederick E.O. Toye has been announced as the director for the first two episodes. Toye has an impressive resume, having worked on Amazon’s award-winning Fallout series as well as The Walking Dead.
Additionally, Ronald D. Moore, a former executive producer of Battlestar Galactica, will serve as the showrunner. Moore joined the project late in 2024. He stepped in after the original production team departed, causing the show to restart its development process.
The official description for the series outlines the core story. It follows the journey of father and son, Kratos and Atreus, as they travel to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Throughout their adventure, Kratos attempts to teach his son how to be a better god, while Atreus tries to help his father learn how to be a better human.
While a specific release date for the first season has not been announced, Amazon has already shown strong confidence in the project. A second season has been officially greenlit, ensuring that the story will continue beyond the initial episodes.
Regarding the character of Sif, she is not a stranger to fans of the video game series. She appeared in the sequel, God of War Ragnarök. In the game, she was voiced by Emily Rose, who is also known for playing Elena Fisher in the PlayStation Uncharted series.
