Sophie Turner’s Lara Croft Portrayal Celebrates Character’s Unapologetic Competence

Sophie Turner is preparing to take on the iconic role of Lara Croft in Amazon’s upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series. The production promises to go beyond just the visual style of the character, bringing back the confident and capable personality that defined Lara in the 1990s.

In a recent conversation with the Los Angeles Times, Turner explained that Amazon’s version of Tomb Raider will not portray Lara as a simple “sex bombshell.” The focus of the show will be on Lara herself, her personal journey, and the motivations that drive her forward.

Turner acknowledged that while many fans love the character’s appearance in the games and movies, she wants to highlight a different side of Lara Croft. She described Amazon’s interpretation of the character as “so unashamedly capable,” emphasizing that Lara is a woman who does not hide her strengths.

The series has officially begun filming this week. Alongside Sophie Turner, the cast includes several well-known actors such as Celia Imrie, Jason Isaacs, Sigourney Weaver, and Martin Bobb-Semple. The production team is bringing together significant talent for this adaptation.

Sigourney Weaver, who is part of the cast, has already shared her positive thoughts on the project. She described the scripts for the Tomb Raider series as “incredible, and very funny, very charming, very witty,” suggesting that the show will have a strong sense of humor alongside its adventure elements.

The creative team behind the series is equally impressive. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for her work on Fleabag, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Killing Eve, and Crashing, is serving as the creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner for the Tomb Raider series.

Jonathan Van Tulleken is taking on the role of director and executive producer for the show. Chad Hodge is also working as a co-showrunner and executive producer, helping to guide the series through its production.

For fans of the Tomb Raider franchise, this adaptation represents a return to the roots of what made the character so popular in the first place. The series seems poised to capture the adventurous spirit and strong personality that Lara Croft was known for during the 90s era of gaming.

The combination of Sophie Turner’s portrayal and the talented creative team suggests that this live-action series will offer a fresh yet respectful take on the beloved video game character. Fans are eagerly anticipating seeing this version of Lara Croft come to life on screen.
