Helldivers 2 Gets Explosive Hammers, Old Threat Returns in New Trailer

Helldivers 2 is known for its wild and destructive ways of fighting enemies, and the new Siege Breakers update is set to crank things up even higher. This update includes a fresh batch of gear and hints that a scary foe from the original Helldivers game might be making a comeback.

PlayStation and the game developers, Arrowhead Studios, have revealed what’s coming in this next big update, which is expected to drop on February 3rd. A big part of it is a new premium warbond, which is like a special package filled with new weapons and cool outfits for your Helldiver. You can get this warbond by using Super Credits, which you can either buy with real money or earn slowly by playing the game and completing missions.

The trailer for the update shows off some new armor sets called the SA-7 Headfirst and SA-8 RAM. But the real stars of the show are the new main weapon and three new special abilities, called stratagems.

One of the new weapons is the LAS-16 Trident, which is like a shotgun but shoots six beams at once to blast enemies of Super Earth. When it comes to stratagems, the CQC-20 Breaching Hammer looks like it will be a fan favorite. You can use it to smash enemies up close, or you can give it an explosive charge for a really big boom. This explosive option might even be a little scary for your fellow Helldivers!

Heavy weapons are also getting an upgrade with the GL-28 Grenade Launcher and the EAT-411 Leveller stratagems. The grenade launcher does what it sounds like, firing a constant stream of explosives. The Leveller is a super rocket launcher that fires a powerful missile. For defense, the new G/SH-39 Shield is a throwable item that creates a shield to block big enemy attacks, giving you a moment to reload or catch your breath.

Besides weapons and armor, the new warbond also includes things like new ways for your Helldiver to move (emotes), new designs for your gear, and more. But what really got players talking are the last few seconds of the trailer. They show a hint of a massive new enemy that could be coming: the cyborgs from the first Helldivers game. It’s not clear yet if they’ll be a completely new enemy group or just part of the existing Automaton army. However, many experienced players on the Helldivers online forums seem to agree on what this means for the future of Super Earth’s fight.

After the game’s download size was significantly reduced due to player feedback, it seems like the developers are now fully focused on creating new content. On top of that, a live-action movie based on Helldivers is also moving forward quickly.
