According to the Reunion team, Chloe’s return could be down to the powers that Max gained in the most recent series release, Double Exposure, which could allow her to shift between parallel timelines. However, whichever choice players made in the original Life is Strange game – bay or bae – will still be reflected with branching dialogue. It does affect Chloe, though, who is having flashbacks to those moments in the first game.

As for Chloe, she has the gift of the gab. That is to say, Backtalk, which Chloe can use to “browbeat her opponents during key conversations” and explore areas of Caledon University that Max can’t (see image above).

The most recent entry in the Life is Strange series was Life is Strange: Double Exposure, which was released in November 2024. This game launched amidst a major backlash from fans, who were upset at how Double Exposure handled the ongoing storyline of returning protagonist Max Caulfield, and the impact of players’ choice at the beginning of the first Life is Strange.
Double Exposure was reportedly a loss for Square Enix and following its release, developer Deck Nine suffered layoffs. CEO Mark Lyons stated at the time: “This was an extremely difficult decision and reflects the challenging times our industry is currently facing.”
