Memory of Chaos: Category Mistake took over from Pillar of Genesis in Honkai Star Rail on October 27, 2025. It adds fresh tough fights to the endgame mode.
This new setup boosts damage from your characters and their helpers. It also hits all foes with True Damage at the start of each turn. More helpers on the field mean more hits.
Pay attention to the details. Units from Remembrance like Memosprites work great here. Things like Jing Yuan’s Lightning Lord count as helpers too. They trigger the stage bonuses. This matters a lot when picking your teams.
Like before, I’ll share my winning run through MoC: Category Mistake. We can pick up tips to help you beat this hard challenge.
Category Mistake – Stage 9
- Team 1: Castorice [E1], Trailblazer (Remembrance) [E6], Evernight, Lingsha
- Team 2: Kafka [E1], Hysilens, Black Swan, Permansor Terrae
- Cycles: 0 (3/3 Stars)
I tried to use the stage bonus as much as I could in all my teams. I picked characters with helpers whenever possible. This Castorice group is perfect for that. Trailblazer (Remembrance) gives buffs and helps with turns for Castorice. Evernight deals big damage and uses her own health to speed up Castorice’s big move. Lingsha heals well and adds Break Damage boosts. Every one has a helper, so you get max extra damage and buffs.
Ice damage teams with The Herta or Jingliu can handle this part easy. Quantum teams do fine too.
Besides Jing Yuan, these were all my helper characters before version 3.6. That update gave us a free Dan Heng – Permansor Terrae. Time to use him. If you saw my last MoC guide, you know I like Huohuo a lot. But I swapped her for Permansor Terrae to get the stage bonus. It worked better than I thought. I missed Huohuo’s energy help for Hysilens’s big move, especially later. But Permansor Terrae defended well without using many skill points. That helped Black Swan more. His attack boosts fit great for a DoT team.
Break damage teams, counter teams with Clara or Yunli, or Phainon groups will do good here too.
Category Mistake – Stage 10
- Team 1: Castorice [E1], Trailblazer (Remembrance) [E6], Evernight, Lingsha
- Team 2: Kafka [E1], Hysilens, Black Swan, Permansor Terrae
- Cycles: 1 (3/3 Stars)
Not much change from the last stage. The enemy weaknesses match my teams just right. Go Quantum for the first part. Use an Archer team with Sparkle and Silver Wolf, or Cipher if you lack Castorice.
The second part likes Physical damage teams, like ones with Phainon. A Feixiao follow-up attack team can win in time too. If you have Hyacine free from the first part, she’s fun here. The stage bonus makes her little buddy hit harder. Saber can beat the robot quick too, like last time.
Category Mistake – Stage 11
- Team 1: Kafka [E1], Hysilens, Black Swan, Permansor Terrae
- Team 2: The Herta, Jade, Trailblazer (Remembrance) [E6], Lingsha
- Cycles: 4 (3/3 Stars)
The first half of stage 11 suits DoT or super carry teams with Jing Yuan or Aglaea leading. I moved my DoT team up. It was simple. Aventurine is not too bad when your team has area attacks for his dice game. Permansor Terrae’s shields hold strong.
The Banacademic Office Staff in the second half can annoy with energy cuts. But I counted on The Herta and Lingsha’s power to keep foes broken. That saved our energy. Lingsha with the stage damage buff is strong. You can use her as main damage with Trailblazer (Harmony) and Ruan Mei.
A Firefly or Rappa break damage team would be my next pick for this stage.
Category Mistake – Stage 12
- Team 1: Castorice [E1], Trailblazer (Remembrance) [E6], Evernight, Lingsha
- Team 2: Kafka [E1], Hysilens, Black Swan, Permansor Terrae
- Cycles: 9 (3/3 Stars)
Lots of ways to fight Flame Reaver and his pals. I used Castorice again for the buffs. Teams with The Herta, Aglaea, or Jing Yuan can hurt him bad, even with his high health. I had close calls with Evernight. Her health use can go wild if you slip. Flame Reaver hits hard, so stay alert.
The DoT team came back for the second half. That ugly new boss from Evernight’s story. Phainon works well again, or break teams. An Archer setup with Silver Wolf adds Quantum weakness, but it might be weak on defense.
It took me time to wear down both bosses’ health. Missing Huohuo’s energy slowed the DoT team’s flow. But Permansor Terrae did better than expected. Great shields, low skill point use, and good at breaking Physical. Build him if this MoC gives you trouble.
My last tip is don’t worry about zero-cycle clears. Aim to win in ten cycles for full rewards. Less is extra.
