Publisher Curve Games and developer IronOak Games have shared the future plans for For the King 2. They released the official 2026 roadmap for the game, which outlines what players can expect in the first half of the year. This update includes both free content for everyone and paid downloadable content.
There are several important highlights in this new roadmap. Players will finally get a manual save system, which is a free update. The popular Dungeon Crawl: Gauntlet mode is also returning in another free update. Additionally, there is a paid DLC called Into the Wild that will introduce two new characters to the game.
Details of the 2026 Roadmap
The plan for 2026 starts in the first quarter of the year. During this time, the game will receive several smaller updates. These updates will add new elemental orb weapons to the game. To celebrate the Year of the Horse, two free Horse Head cosmetic items will be available. Most importantly, the new manual save system will be introduced in this quarter.

This manual save feature is available specifically for Apprentice and Journeyman modes. The developers created this system to help reduce the stress players feel while exploring the world of Fahrul. The game relies heavily on permadeath mechanics, meaning if a character dies, they are gone forever. Sometimes, a simple misclick could accidentally kill a party member or two, so this new save option helps prevent that.
The second quarter of 2026 is a major stop on the roadmap. This is when the third major content update for For the King 2 will arrive. The highlight of this update is the Dungeon Crawl: Gauntlet mode. In this mode, players are tasked with exploring the deep parts of Fahrul in a free-form adventure. They will journey into multiple dungeons located across a randomized map. According to the publisher, this mode features new bosses, new biomes, and a healthy mix of familiar faces.
This new mode also supports a monthly leaderboard for players to compete on. There is also a static monthly map seed available for those who are more competitively minded. This allows players to compete on the exact same map layout.

During the second quarter of 2026, the Treasure Hunter character is returning as a playable option. This character brings a new weapon type to the game: shotguns. To wrap up this third major content update, a new cosmetic item called the Forest Mystic Cat will be added.
At some point during the first half of 2026, the Into the Wild paid DLC will be released. This expansion adds two brand new playable characters to the game. With these additions, the total number of characters available in the sequel rises to a whopping 23. The DLC also includes new cosmetics, new weapons, a fresh trait, and more content for players to enjoy.
For the King 2 is currently available to play on PC, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
