It is hard to believe that we are already a month into 2026! Time really does fly by when you are having fun. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from January, especially because we had some really small Sundays and long games played. Which is good! But also means that not a lot of other things happened.
Usually, January is a time for fresh starts and new gaming adventures. However, this year felt a bit different. The days were short, and the nights were long. We found ourselves settling in for some serious board game sessions. It was a cozy way to spend the winter months.

Our Sunday gaming sessions were smaller than usual. It wasn’t a bad thing, though. It gave us a chance to focus on the games we really wanted to play. We didn’t have to worry about fitting too many people around the table. It was just a close group of friends enjoying the hobby.
One of the highlights was definitely the longer games we played. When you have a smaller group, you can tackle those big, complex board games that take hours to finish. These are the types of games that require a lot of thinking and planning. They are not for the faint of heart!

Playing these long games was a great way to pass the time. January can be a bit of a dull month after the excitement of the holidays. Having a deep, engaging game to focus on made the weekends something to look forward to. It kept our minds sharp and our spirits high.
Because the games were so long, we didn’t get to play as many different titles. Usually, we like to mix it up and try new things. This month, we really dug deep into just a few specific games. We learned all the rules and strategies inside and out.

There is something satisfying about mastering a complex game. By the end of the month, we knew exactly what we were doing. We could play faster and make better decisions. It felt like a real accomplishment to see our skills improve over time.
However, the small Sundays did mean that not a lot of other gaming activities happened. We didn’t have the chance to try out many new releases. We didn’t have big tournaments or large gatherings. It was a quieter, more focused kind of gaming month.

For some people, that might sound a little boring. They might prefer the excitement of big crowds and lots of variety. But for us, it was perfect. It was a chance to slow down and really appreciate the games we love. Quality over quantity was the theme of the month.
Looking back, January 2026 was a unique month for gaming. It was defined by long, strategic sessions and intimate gatherings. While it wasn’t the busiest month we’ve ever had, it was certainly one of the most memorable. We set a good foundation for the rest of the year.

As we move into February, I wonder if our gaming habits will change. The days are getting longer, and spring is just around the corner. Maybe we will see more people coming out for our Sunday sessions. Or maybe we will continue to enjoy these deep, long games.
Whatever happens, I am glad we started the year this way. It was a relaxing and enjoyable month of gaming. It reminded me that it’s not always about how many games you play, but how much you enjoy the ones you do play. January was a good start to the new year.
