Amazon’s Fallout Season 2 Still a Massive Hit for Prime Video

The second season of Amazon’s popular TV show based on the Fallout video games has been a huge success, even if the numbers are not quite as high as the first season. According to reports from earlier this year, the show saw a small decline in viewership compared to its debut. However, Amazon has now shared new information showing that the series is still performing exceptionally well on their streaming platform.

Back in January, a company called Nielsen, which tracks media data, released some numbers. They reported that between December 15th and December 21st, the first episode of season two and eight episodes from season one gathered a total of 794 million viewing minutes. While this is a very large number, it was significantly lower than the 2.9 billion minutes that season one attracted during its first week in April 2024. Another reason people were questioning the show’s success was that Amazon, which usually shares impressive figures right away, remained quiet about the viewership for a long time.

That silence has now ended. Although Amazon is not giving out exact numbers for how many people are watching, they have provided some comparisons that show how well the second season is doing. The show is being released weekly, unlike the first season, and the final two episodes have not aired yet. As reported by Deadline, Amazon considers this latest season of Fallout to be the top-performing season on Prime Video since the third season of Reacher, which premiered in February 2025.

The show is also being called the sixth biggest season of all time for Prime Video. To give you an idea of where it stands, it is behind the first season of Fallout, the first two seasons of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and the second and third seasons of Reacher. If we only look at seasons that are returning for a second time, Fallout season two is the fourth most successful.

Peter Friedlander, who is the head of global TV at Amazon MGM Studios, spoke to Deadline about the show’s performance. He said, “We are thrilled with the Fallout S2 reception from audiences and critics globally.” He explained that after the first four weeks, season two is already the sixth most-watched season ever on Prime Video. He also noted that the show has a higher rating on Rotten Tomatoes than the first season did. Friedlander added that more than half of the audience watching the season so far comes from outside the United States, and they are excited for even more viewers to discover the show as new episodes continue to be released.

Regardless of the success of the second season, Amazon has already committed to making a third season. Production for the next season is scheduled to start on May 1st, 2026. It is clear that the company has a lot of confidence in the Fallout brand. They have already announced a new reality show based on the Fallout games. This show will feature contestants living inside a real-life Vault. The show, known as Fallout Shelter, will consist of 10 episodes when it eventually airs on Prime Video.
