Are you looking forward to playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake on the Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S? If you haven’t tried the demo yet to see how the game runs on these systems, a new update from Square Enix might make you even more excited for Cloud’s adventures outside of PlayStation and PC. The publisher has announced that next Thursday, January 22, 2026, a patch will be released for the PS5 and PC versions. This update will add all the new features coming to the upcoming platform versions to the existing games.
According to a post from the company, this new patch introduces “Streamlined Progression,” which includes the ability to keep your HP and MP topped up automatically. It also adds the option to “always hit for 9,999 damage.” The new boosters allow you to toggle full HP, full MP, a full Limit gauge, and maximum damage dealt. All of these options can be turned on or off individually or as a set.
Replay the Game with Ease
If you wanted to rush through the story again to enjoy all the differences from the original game before the launch of Part 3, this update will make a replay much easier. It remains to be seen whether these “boosters,” which are similar to mechanics found in older Final Fantasy remasters, will affect trophy unlocks on the PS5 version. If they don’t, it will make getting the Platinum trophy easier for those who care about that achievement.
Modern Gaming Habits
Director Naoki Hamaguchi shared his thoughts on these updates in a previous message. “I feel that the way people enjoy content has become more flexible these days, as we see with video streaming platforms, and that people also want the same thing from games,” he said. “They want options to tailor the experience based on the time they have and their levels of interest.”
He continued, “I have also had personal experiences where I wanted to play something with the limited time I have but gave up because of the time it takes to level up characters or traverse the game. That’s exactly why I think that the Streamlined Progression feature is very effective – to give players smooth access to the story.”
Parity Across Platforms
We already knew that this update was coming to the PS5 and PC versions of the game; we just didn’t know the exact date. It is good to see that Square Enix is ensuring parity with the new versions of the title. They are not leaving existing customers waiting while Switch and Xbox users get all the fun new features.
Square Enix has confirmed that the whole trilogy will be coming to Xbox and Switch 2, as well as PlayStation 5 and PC. So if you wanted to start your journey into Midgar with a bang, the publisher has you covered. Elsewhere, Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida has hinted that the latest title in the series may also be headed to Switch 2 soon.
