Game Freak’s New Game Beast of Reincarnation Has a Small Core Team

Game Freak, the studio well-known for creating the Pokémon series, is working on a new game called Beast of Reincarnation. They are not doing this alone, however. The developer is partnering with several other companies to help finish this upcoming release.

During the recent Xbox Developer Direct event, Game Freak showed off more footage of Beast of Reincarnation. The game is set in a future version of Japan that has suffered a major disaster. Players will control a character named Emma the Sealer. She is not alone on her journey; she travels with a loyal dog companion named Koo. Together, they must find the

Many people who saw the game thought it looked very promising. It appears to be quite different from the other games Game Freak has made in the past. It also seems much bigger in scale than their usual projects. This led some to wonder if the studio hired more people to work on it.

However, the answer to that question is no. Game Freak did not increase its internal staff significantly for this game. Instead, they reached out to other studios and partners to help them build the game. This approach allowed them to work with teams that could realize their vision for the project.

The game director for Beast of Reincarnation explained the situation in an interview. He noted that while the total team working on the game is large, not everyone is from Game Freak’s internal staff. The director said they were lucky to find many partner companies willing to work with them. These external partners help make the game exactly how the creators wanted it to be.

A representative from the company further clarified the situation. They stated that the internal team at Game Freak is actually “relatively small.” This small group is responsible for the core direction and management of the project. They lead the development while the external partners handle other parts of the work.

Beast of Reincarnation is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2026. It will be available on several gaming platforms. Players will be able to buy it for the PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

During the same Xbox Developer Direct event, other games were also featured. We got to see new footage for Fable, which is set to arrive in the autumn of 2026. Forza Horizon 6 was also confirmed for a release in May. Additionally, the developer Double Fine showed off their new game called Kiln, which is a party brawler with a pottery theme.
