As fans look forward to the release of IO Interactive’s 007 First Light in May and celebrate the fifth anniversary of Hitman 3, there is exciting news for the Hitman: World of Assassination community. The game is finally adding cross-progression support, allowing players to continue their adventures across different gaming systems.
Many gamers expected this feature to arrive eventually, especially after the Nintendo Switch 2 port was released last year. With more content planned for this year, the timing seemed right. However, with everyone focused on the upcoming James Bond game, the exact arrival date was a surprise. On January 20th, IO Interactive officially announced that the feature will go live on February 3rd. Along with this news, they revealed a fresh new look for the IOI Account service on both web browsers and mobile devices.
A detailed guide explaining how cross-progression works was shared, along with a list of frequently asked questions. The main point is simple: players can now take their progress in Hitman: World of Assassination (which combines Hitman 1, 2, and 3 into one package) with them no matter which device they are using. For instance, you could start a mission on your PC at home, then continue your gameplay on the Switch 2 while traveling, provided you have an internet connection.
IO Interactive also mentioned that a Steam patch, version 3.250.1, will be released next week. This update ensures that everything is ready for the new cross-progression system to function correctly. Players will need to log into their IOI Account and select a “primary platform.” Other devices will follow this main account. It is important to note that game licenses, DLC purchases, and unlocks related to DLCs are not shared between platforms. You must own the necessary content on every device where you want to use cross-progression. This has always been the rule, but it is worth repeating for clarity.
Regarding save files, IO Interactive clarified that “old save games created on a non-primary linked account will not be loadable while Cross-Progression is active.” To summarize, the system will only recognize saves connected to the IOI Account. Therefore, it is highly recommended to ensure everything is properly updated and linked before using this new feature.
As an additional note, IO Interactive reminded players that the process to carry over progress from Hitman 2 to Hitman 3 will close on February 3rd. After this date, all progress will be locked into the latest version of the game. The developers have always had a somewhat complex approach to progression and upgrades, which often caused confusion. Being extra careful before this major update is a smart move.
If you are waiting for news about the future of the Hitman series, IO Interactive has hinted that plans are in place. However, do not expect any official reveals until the co-op mode for World of Assassination and the game 007 First Light have been released.
