Sony has taken a major step to clean up the PlayStation Store by removing over a thousand games from a single developer. The games were suddenly taken down without any prior warning. This action seems to be part of Sony’s plan to get rid of low-quality games, often called shovelware, from both the PS5 and PS4 digital stores.
The developer affected by this removal is ThiGames. Before this happened, ThiGames was actually the fourth highest-ranked developer on the PlayStation Store when it came to the sheer number of games they had published. However, all of the games released by ThiGames have now been completely removed from the store. The only thing that remains for players who bought these games are the trophies they earned. Those trophy unlocks are still visible in the players’ profiles.
As of now, neither Sony nor ThiGames has released an official statement explaining why this massive removal of games took place. However, it is worth noting that ThiGames was known for releasing games with very basic quality. For example, they had titles like “The Jumping Fries,” where players control a piece of fries and jump around. They also released “The Jumping Taco,” “The Jumping Hot Dog,” “The Jumping Soda,” and “The Jumping Taco TURBO.” These games were not on the same level as major titles like Street Fighter 2.

So, why did these games have a player base at all? If you look at the video above, you will find a full platinum trophy guide for “The Jumping Taco TURBO.” You might notice that the video is only 95 seconds long. This is because the trophy lists attached to these games were incredibly simple. In the case of “The Jumping Taco,” the trophies were just a collection of “Jump x times” milestones. Because of this, these games were very valuable to players who wanted to quickly inflate their PlayStation trophy collection.
This is not the first time Sony has removed shovelware games from its PlayStation store. About a year ago, the company took similar action against a developer called Randomspin. That developer was suspected of using artificial intelligence and recycled assets, and they were quietly removed from the store. Randomspin was also releasing a massive number of games in a short period of time, much like ThiGames did.
