Ubisoft has announced the closure of two of its studios and the cancellation of six different game projects. Among the cancelled titles is the highly anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which has faced numerous delays over the years. This move is part of a significant restructuring effort that will also result in delays for seven other games currently in development.
The company described these changes as a “major organizational, operational and portfolio reset.” This strategy is designed to help Ubisoft adapt to a market where players are more selective about big-budget games and where competition in the shooter genre is intense. As part of this new direction, the publisher will organize its work into five main creative groups. These groups will focus on expanding major franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry; developing competitive and cooperative shooters such as The Division and Ghost Recon; managing live-service games like For Honor and Skull & Bones; creating immersive fantasy worlds including Anno and Might & Magic; and producing casual family-friendly titles.
The immediate effect of this restructuring is the shutdown of Ubisoft’s mobile studio in Halifax and its studio in Stockholm. The publisher also confirmed that its teams in Abu Dhabi, RedLynx, and Massive are undergoing restructuring. While the exact number of employees who will lose their jobs has not been specified, reports indicate that all remaining staff are now required to work from the office five days a week. However, employees will still receive an annual allowance for some remote work days.
During this major shake-up, Ubisoft confirmed it has cancelled six games that were still in development. The company stated these projects did not meet its new, higher quality standards or its more selective priorities for its game portfolio. Four of these cancelled titles were never officially announced to the public, consisting of three new intellectual properties and one mobile game. The only named cancellation is the troubled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, which was first revealed in 2020. Despite being given a release window between January and March 2026 during its last update, the project has now been unexpectedly cancelled.
Alongside the cancellations, Ubisoft is delaying seven other unspecified games. The company explained this decision is to ensure these titles meet enhanced quality benchmarks and to maximize their long-term value. Notably, this delay includes the rumored Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake, which was widely expected to be announced soon. This game will now launch in Ubisoft’s next financial year, which begins in April 2026, rather than the current one. Due to these changes, Ubisoft has revised its financial outlook for the year, now expecting net bookings of approximately €1.5 billion, which is a reduction of €330 million.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot issued a statement regarding the announcement, calling these measures a decisive turning point for the company. He emphasized the determination to face challenges directly in order to reshape the group for the long term. Guillemot acknowledged that the refocusing of the game portfolio will significantly impact the company’s short-term financial trajectory, particularly in the fiscal years 2026 and 2027. However, he believes this reset will ultimately strengthen the group and allow it to return to sustainable growth and strong cash generation. According to the CEO, Ubisoft is entering a new phase designed to reclaim creative leadership and build lasting value for both players and stakeholders.
