Ball x Pit Gets Major Update with New Characters and Balls

The indie game Ball x Pit, developed by Kenny Sun and Friends, gained a lot of attention when it was released. It was even named one of the favorite games of 2025 by Eurogamer. Fans have been waiting for new content, and now the wait is almost over. The developers have confirmed that free updates are coming this year, and the first big one is just around the corner.

On January 19th, the publisher Devolver Digital and the game’s official channels shared exciting news. The first major update is called The Regal Update. It is scheduled to launch on January 26th for all platforms. This release date is sooner than many people expected. However, it makes sense to release it now because February looks like a very busy month for new game launches.

According to the official posts and a short, funny trailer, players can expect several new additions. The update will introduce two new characters to the game. It will also add eight new balls for players to use. Additionally, there will be new passive abilities, though the exact number has not been specified. Fans are already guessing what other surprises might be included. The detailed patch notes should be released soon.

The first new character is called The Carouser. The description says this character is like a juggler, with balls returning to orbit around them. This suggests players should start thinking about new strategies involving area-of-effect and defensive builds. The second character is The Falconer. This character uses two ball-shooting birds to increase damage per second. Both characters seem to offer unique ways to play the game.

As for the eight new balls, the developers have decided to keep them a secret for now. Looking at the many combinations already available in the game, adding several new balls at once will definitely shake up the current strategies. Players will need to experiment with these new tools to find the best builds.

There is also no specific information yet about the teased new passives. A common criticism of the game is that it lacks a true endgame. Currently, players mostly replay the journey on higher difficulty levels or max out stats, which can feel pointless after a certain point. The genre is filled with roguelite games that have ambitious endgame loops. It will be interesting to see if the team behind Ball x Pit can keep dedicated players engaged for the long term with this update.
