G2 Minnesota Ends FaZe Vegas Streak; LA Thieves Beat OpTic Texas in CDL Stage 1 Qualifiers

The fourth week of the Call of Duty League Stage 1 Major Qualifiers wrapped up on Sunday with some surprising results. G2 Minnesota managed to end FaZe Vegas’s strong winning run. At the same time, the Los Angeles Thieves handed OpTic Texas a difficult loss in their matchup.

These games changed the top of the standings significantly. FaZe Vegas and OpTic Texas both fell to a 4-2 record. They now share the first-place spot with the Riyadh Falcons. The Los Angeles Thieves are close behind with a 3-2 record, sitting just half a game back from the leaders.

The qualification format involves all 12 teams competing. Each win gives a team 10 CDL points. While every team will move on to the Major 1 event in Dallas from January 29 to February 1, these recent results are crucial. They determine whether teams start in the upper or lower bracket for the tournament.

G2 Minnesota showed great resilience in their match against FaZe Vegas, winning the series 3-1. They started with a loss on the Blackheart Hardpoint map, with a score of 250-193. However, G2 bounced back strongly. They won a close Search and Destroy match on Raid with a 6-5 score. They followed that with a 2-1 victory on Den Overload. Finally, they secured the series win with a 250-200 triumph on Colossus Hardpoint. This victory broke FaZe Vegas’s unbeaten streak, which had started after their opening day loss.

The Los Angeles Thieves had a similar comeback story against OpTic Texas. They lost the first map on Exposure Hardpoint, 250-216. But the Thieves stormed back in the following rounds. They dominated the Search and Destroy on Scar, winning 6-1. They also controlled the Exposure Overload map with a 5-1 score. The series ended 3-1 in their favor after a 250-213 win on Scar Hardpoint. Kenny was named the player of the match for his performance.

In another exciting match of the day, Boston Breach pulled off a remarkable reverse sweep. They were down 2-0 against Cloud9 New York but fought back to win the full five-map series. New York started strong, taking the Scar Hardpoint 250-212 and the Den Overload 6-4. Boston refused to give up, winning the next map on Scar Overload 4-3. They then won the Colossus Hardpoint decisively, 250-105. They completed the comeback with a perfect 6-0 shutout on Exposure Search and Destroy.

With only one final week of qualifiers remaining, starting this Friday, the schedule is set. The upcoming matches include OpTic Texas versus Carolina Royal Ravens and Toronto KOI facing Paris Gentle Mates.
