One of League of Legends’ Best Players Got His Start Thanks to a Temple Blessing

JunJia is one of the best League of Legends players in the world right now. But he almost didn’t become a professional player at all, even though he showed great promise when he was younger.

When JunJia was trying to decide whether to go pro or stick with regular school, his grandmother did something special. She went to a local Taoist temple and asked a powerful god named Xuanwu for guidance about his future.

The way they asked the god’s question was interesting. They used Poe divination, which is an old method where you drop two wooden pieces on the ground. It’s kind of like flipping a coin, but more complicated. The way the pieces fall gives you the answer to your question.

Whether you believe a higher power helped make the pieces fall the right way or if JunJia just got lucky, the result was the same: He’s now one of the top professional players in the world.

JunJia went pro because of a divine blessing

JunJia started competing when he was only 16 years old, so he’s been a pro for about seven years now. But back when he began, Taiwan wasn’t as big in League of Legends as it is today.

If you wanted to be a serious player, your best chance was to join a Chinese team. Very few players could actually make it onto those teams. Even though JunJia was with EDG for years, they never let him play on their main team. He was always on their development team or just a substitute player.

But once he joined teams in what’s now called the LCP, he started to really shine. With both PSG Talon and his current team CBTC Flying Oyster, he’s been the most valuable player on his team. He’s won the MVP award for three Grand Finals in a row and always makes great plays from the jungle position.

In an interview with Home Run Taiwan, JunJia talked about the divination and his current struggles as a player. “We talked for a long time. My family was hesitant. Then my grandma went to a local temple and asked Xuanwu, a Taoist deity, if I could pursue this career path – the god said yes, so I went for it,” JunJia recalled.

This interview happened before MSI 2025. Before the tournament, JunJia felt like he wasn’t playing as well as he could, even though he was doing great in games in his home region.

“I don’t think I have a lot more in me, in terms of how long I’ll be able to stay a pro player. I want to go all out with no regrets, but I can’t stop thinking about how to return to my peak performance a few years ago,” JunJia said.

At MSI, Flying Oyster almost beat the famous T1 team and easily knocked MAD Lions KOI out of the tournament. Even though JunJia has doubts about whether he can keep getting better after seven years as a pro, it’s clear he still has a lot left in him. MSI 2025 was the first time a team from a smaller region beat a team from a big region in a best-of-five series, and Flying Oyster is one of the best teams to ever come from that part of the world.
